Product Details

Eltroxin 125 Tablet is a synthetic thyroid hormone that works by replacing thyroid hormones in the body when the body's natural production is insufficient to satisfy its demands. Eltroxin 125 Tablet is used primarily to treat hypothyroidism, or decreased thyroid hormone secretion. It contains thyroxine, a synthetic thyroid hormone that is chemically identical to the thyroxine generated by the thyroid gland. Thyroxine is used to restore lost thyroid hormone and/or to reduce stress on the thyroid gland. Hypothyroidism is a chronic disorder in which our thyroid gland (located under the throat in the neck) fails to generate adequate thyroid hormone. Thyroid hormones are made up of tri-iodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) and regulate the body's metabolism. Underactive thyroid causes the body's metabolism to slow down, making the person feel less energized. Other symptoms include fatigue, constipation, weight gain, feeling chilly even in warm weather, dry skin, excessive or insufficient menstruation (in women), and poor mood. Hypothyroidism treatment is necessary for restoring normal body metabolism (basal metabolic rate). If you have any of the symptoms listed above, your doctor will recommend that you have a 'thyroid function test', which tests three thyroid hormones: TSH, T3, and T4. High TSH and low T3/T4 levels suggest that your thyroid gland is not working properly. Your doctor will change the dose of Eltroxin 125 Tablet based on your body weight and the results of your thyroid function tests. The drug may take several weeks to fully take action. Regular thyroid function monitoring is recommended to verify that you are receiving the correct dose of Eltroxin 125 Tablet. Take Eltroxin 125 Tablet as directed by your doctor. Eltroxin 125 Tablet usually has no major side effects when taken as prescribed, but overdosage can cause headache, nervousness, sleeplessness, irritability, diarrhoea, muscle spasms, weight loss, feeling hot even in cool environments, menstrual irregularities (in women), and skin rash. If you miss a dosage, do not take a double dose since it might have significant negative effects. Your doctor may prescribe calcium or vitamin D supplements in addition to Eltroxin 125 Tablet to improve your bone health. Eltroxin 125 Tablet should not be taken only to lose weight. People with diabetes who use Eltroxin 125 Tablet may have changes in blood glucose control, resulting in higher antidiabetic or insulin needs. As a result, patients with diabetes should see their doctor and closely monitor their glucose levels after beginning, altering, or ending thyroid hormone medication.

Safety Advices

Doses that exceed the recommended range may result in significant or even fatal toxic symptoms. So, if you forget to take Eltroxin 125 Tablet, take it as soon as you recall. However, if it is almost time for your next dosage, you should avoid the missing dose and stick to your usual regimen as prescribed by your doctor. Eltroxin 125 Tablet is not recommended for the treatment of obesity or weight reduction. Patients with adrenaline or pituitary gland problems, heart disease, diabetes, or coagulation issues should not use Eltroxin 125 Tablet without first seeing a doctor, as the dose may need to be changed. Diabetes patients taking Eltroxin 125 Tablet should see their doctor before starting this medication since it may decrease glycemic control and necessitate more antidiabetic medications or insulin treatment. Eltroxin 125 Tablet used on a regular basis may lower bone mineral density, especially in postmenopausal women. Consult your doctor, who may recommend the lowest feasible amount for your bone health. If you are using Eltroxin 125 Tablet before to surgery, notify your doctor. Thyroid function tests are often performed on an empty stomach following an overnight (6-8 hours) fast.

Additional Details

Hypothyroidism, or underactive thyroid, is a chronic disorder in which the thyroid gland fails to produce enough thyroid hormones to fulfill your body's requirements. When thyroid hormone levels are low, our bodies' functioning and metabolism slow down. Tiredness, heightened cold sensitivity, constipation, dry skin, unexplained weight gain, swollen face, hoarse voice, and muscular weakness are all symptoms of hypothyroidism. Some forms of hypothyroidism may result in a loss of calcium and vitamin D.
